Understanding Golf Cart Accidents

Golf Carts have a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour. This is much slower than the speeds we all regularly drive in our cars and trucks. So, it’s tempting to not think much about golf cart accidents.

Here in The Villages we are very much aware of golf carts. Even if we don’t go to a golf course, many people here drive golf carts around town as their primary mode of local transportation.

Approximately 17,000 golf cart crashes and accidents requiring a hospital visit occur annually nationwide, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The Villages Department of Safety reported responding to at least 86 accidents involving golf carts in 2018.

Sixty-three of those 86 accidents involved injuries. The department did not provide how many of those involved fatalities.
